ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY
Shrimpbox utilizes biofloc technology — a system that minimizes the use of water and eliminates the necessity of antibiotics and other harmful chemicals while emulating what’s happening in the ocean.
Wild shrimp farming destroys as much as 2 million km of seabed annually — an area comparable in size to the country of Mexico. Additionally, wild shrimp farming is responsible for >50% of global bycatch, the killing of wildlife that is discarded due to lack of market value or because it is too costly to be brought to shore. It also relies on continuous water exchange with oceans. An average shrimp farm pollutes the ocean on a scale comparable to a city with a population of a half million people. Additionally, over 50% of mangroves in the world have been destroyed to build conventional shrimp farms, destroying precious forests which are 5X more efficient in carbon capture than any other forest on the planet.
A Shrimpbox eliminates all of that as it can be placed almost anywhere, requires no wild farming, destroys no seabeds and has no water exchange with the ocean. All of this without using chemicals or antibiotics.
Shrimp is one of the most popular proteins in the world. In the past five years, shrimp sales volume increased from 275 to 415 million pounds. Atarraya has the technology to both radically improve the sustainability of shrimp farming while meeting demand for the protein of the 21st century. Shrimpbox is operated with the assistance of artificial intelligence that can mimic a shrimp’s ideal breeding environment, be placed almost anywhere – even in landlocked areas – and produce fresh, clean, healthy shrimp. Shrimpbox farms offer 10X the profitability with 50% less surface area compared to traditional farming. 100% of global shrimp demand could be met with a network of farms roughly the size of Chicago.
ABOUT SHRIMPBOX
For now, we can only produce Litopenaeus Vannamei
3-4 months, depending on the commercial size that you want to harvest
At the moment it is only available in the US but we hope that for the Q3/23 we can start shipping new shrimpboxes for commercial operations to other parts of the world.
Shrimpbox’s AI-powered automated system remotely monitors water quality, regulates temperature and oxygenation and feeds the shrimp. Atarraya’s engineering and automation allow for consistency of cultivation and economic viability in countries with high labor costs.
Shrimpbox relies on 4 main systems that are aeration, filtration, water quality measurement and feed distribution, which are guided by a cloud-based expert system. For example, acceptable operational parameters for water quality are specified by biotech protocols that are then programmed as algorithms in the system. These variables are measured by sensors in shrimpbox that relay the information to the cloud system, the data is compared to the benchmark, and in case an intervention is needed, instructions are transmitted to computing systems in shrimpbox that rely on specific firmware for each interactor to translate the desired new state into instructions to pumps, blowers, electric valves and other devices to respond. A similar workflow is needed for feeding strategy, solid management, temperature, and many others.
Yes, but we our focus is in shrimp. The system could handle any culture of sea species but shrimp is more profitable.
Yes, you can start with one in our Early Adopter Program, but keep in mind that the minimum number of shrimpboxes to run an efficient operation is 20 shrimpbox.
The production capacity of each shrimpbox it´s 350 Kg every 3 months. This is an estimate, depending on certain factors the amount will vary.
Temperature range +/- 82-90°F
In an ideal cycle the water loss would be minimal, just by evaporation and the little need for the decanter and skimmer to work. That’s one of the big differences between traditional shrimp production and our methods.
Some of the main operating costs are electricity, feed, probiotics and larvae.
Yes, it can work with green energy.
Yes, you can produce shrimp in cold climates.
No, you don´t have to be a farmer, we have developed a training program, our in-house Software, and a team that will support you during the production cycles.
Yes, we have a demo training farming in Indianapolis to help you become a shrimp farmer in two weeks.
ABOUT PARTNERSHIPS OPPORTUNITIES
The partner’s commitment includes giving us a refundable deposit, paying all the operating costs, completing the training program, uploading all the information into Atarraya software and being responsible for the go-to-market.
You have to do an initial investment that included the CAPEX, cost for the shrimpbox, and working capital.
In this first stage, we are only operating in the US but we hope to be able to take our operations to other countries by the end of 2023.
Yes, farming in the US has a lot of alternatives for financing: financing for the working capital and financing for capex (through leasing). We work with the following business model: franchise, leasing, co-op for the go-to market, contract production.
